Protect Your Skin during the Winter Months

I love winter. During this glorious time of the year, I enjoy spending time with family members during the holiday season. I also like to sip hot chocolate while lounging in flannel pajamas. While I adore winter, I don’t like what the cold weather can do to my skin. To prevent your skin from becoming too dry when the weather turns cold outside, drink plenty of water. Also, apply a moisturizer to your skin a couple of times each day. If you must go outdoors in dangerously frigid temperatures, make sure to cover your face properly. On this blog, I hope you will discover smart tips to make your skin glow during the winter months. Enjoy!

Skin Rejuvenation Treatments That Won't Leave Your Skin Too Sore

Is your skin looking a bit tired, dull, and perhaps even rough-textured? There are all sorts of different skin rejuvenation treatments you can seek at a medical spa, or even at a standard day spa. Some of these treatments leave your skin temporarily red and irritated. If you have an important meeting or event to attend soon after the treatment, you may not want to deal with these side effects. So, here are some skin rejuvenation treatments that won't leave your skin too sore.

Microdermabrasion

There is a pretty intense treatment called dermabrasion which involves the exfoliation of the outer layer of the skin, in order to expose the healthier, underlying skin. However dermabrasion does leave the skin pretty red and peeling post-treatment. A better option is microdermabrasion, which is the same basic process, but less intense. Only the outermost layers of your skin will be removed, and they'll be removed gently. Your skin will be sensitive to sunlight after microdermabrasion, so you'll need to wear sunscreen, but the irritation should be minimal. Within a few days of the treatment, your skin should look younger, tighter, and refreshed. You should notice fewer enlarged pores and less flaky skin.

Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy is a very gentle treatment to consider. You'll sit in front of a machine that exposes your face to red wavelengths of light for a little while. The specific wavelength of this light causes the cells in your skin to vibrate in ways that encourage healing. After treatment, you may notice your skin appears fuller, more evenly toned, and more moist. If you suffer from acne, you should also notice fewer breakouts in the weeks following red light therapy. Patients rarely suffer any sort of skin soreness or redness afterwards.

Microneedling

If there are specific parts of your face where you notice dullness and signs of aging, then you may want to have microneedling performed. This procedure involves the insertion of many tiny needles just into the very surface of your skin. This stimulates the production of collagen post-treatment, which helps ease a lot of those signs of aging and wear. You may have a little redness after microneedling, but nothing you can't cover with a touch of makeup. There's no notable peeling or healing period like there is with laser skin resurfacing, dermabrasion, and similar treatments.

The skin rejuvenation treatments above won't leave your skin too sore, so feel free to give them a try — even if you're on a tight schedule.
